Bly and Woodman on Men and Women

Put some people on stage together and the chemistry of their relationship comes close to being magical. Robert Bly and Marion Woodman discovered this in the very first workshop they did together. Fortunately this magic has been captured for television.

At the invitation of Applewood, the two travelled to Belleville, Ontario and spent a weekend with an invited audience of friends, colleagues and students. They chose to explore the possibilities of a new kind of relationship between men and women and as a focus, used the very powerful - and very ancient - images of an old Russian fairy story, "The Maiden Tsar."

Storytelling, music, drumming and dance, poetry and discussion were woven together into a seamless, powerful weekend experience. The three-day televised workshop became the six-hour video series "Bly & Woodman on Men & Women." The series was broadcast, to great acclaim, on CBC television in Canada. It was then offered for sale to a growing circle of persons and institutions across North America, Europe and other parts of the world.

Robert and Marion used the story - and the video series - with several different audiences across Canada and the United States,Marion WoodmanRobert Bly and then collaborated on a book. Entitled The Maiden King, the book presents first Robert's then Marion's perceptions, followed by a concluding dialogue. The book and the video series, together with additional resources produced Applewood, make an excellent resource for those persons wanting to form new relationships .
